F.A.Q. From Your Professional HVAC Contractor!

Your A/C system is designed with two separate units which perform together to provide you the ultimate comfort you deserve. The unit on the outside of your home contains a liquid refrigerant that is distributed over the coil located indoors. As the coolant transports itself the heat and humidity are removed from the air and your comfort is maintained by cooling the house.
Efficiency is calculated by using a ratio standard referred to as “SEER” or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. California must now have a minimum SEER rating of 14. An A/C system that is considered to be “high efficient” must be above 16 “SEER”.

There are four contributing factors that play a vital role to the efficiency of your air conditioning and heating system and to your overall comfort.

Temperature – To the average consumer, temperature is the beginning and the end of discussion when the topic of indoor comfort arises. However, temperature is just the beginning.

Clean and Fresh Air – A dusty home can have huge effects on both the efficiency of your system and your health. Our specialists will be happy to suggest an air cleaner that will assist to remove the dust and other allergens within your homes air so that you can breathe easier and your system will run more efficient.

Humidity – As a California resident we are well aware of the weather fluctuations. In the summer months, we may experience a heat wave, which can also cause an influx of humidity which will make it feel much hotter. In your home, when the humidity is removed with your A/C system, the air becomes less sticky and the summers become more enjoyable and your comfort is restored.

System Control – On a daily basis we always answer the same question. “Why are the temperatures so inconsistent from room to room? The front of the house is warmer or cooler than the back and vice versa. Why?” The answer to that question is a self-adjusting thermostat that will balance the air throughout your home. Our specialists at ACP Mechanical will be happy to suggest a programmable thermostat perfectly designed for your needs.

Standard filters work to keep your air conditioning and heating system clean. The filter rests between the main return duct and the blower cabinet and will improve dust removal by seven times more than a standard filter. Upgrading to a pleated media filter will remove everything from insecticide dust to airborne viruses from the filtered air. Always choose a filter that matches your blower’s capacity. For optimum efficiency and filtration, ACP Mechanical recommends that you replace your disposable filters at least once a month. If you have washable filters, they should be cleaned once a month.

It is preferred that the thermostat remain in the “auto” position. In doing so, the fan will operate only when the temperature requires it to. This is the most used and the most efficient setting. However, there are advantages to using the “on” setting. Air is constantly filtered through the unit’s air filter, and the constantly circulating air results in an even temperature throughout the house.
Typically there are many things that can be done to correct the variations in temperature from room to room. One of the first would be a programmable thermostat that will even distribute air throughout the home. The second would be duct work that has been improperly sized for the size of the home. Feel free to consult our technicians to schedule your consultation.
In order to ensure your system maintains a maximum operating standard, our experts at ACP Mechanical recommend a thorough check-up at least twice a year. For any system that is that is over 10 years old, unfortunately you can be paying an average of 30% more on your overall utility expenses due to a lack in efficiency standard.
Most air conditioning and heating products are long lasting and offer many variables that affect the life expectancy of the system. All well-maintained units can easily last 10 or more years.
Absolutely! The initial expense of a new A/C system may seem overwhelming. However, the long-term benefit of reducing your energy cost will not only pay for your new system but also provide a more comfortable living.
There are many factors that affect the sizing and specifications of your system, including square footage, insulation, window surface and configuration, geographic location of your home, duct sizing and arrangement, and many others. ACP Mechanical can perform an in-home evaluation to determine which equipment combinations will perfectly suit your home and your family’s needs.
